Dining Room Tables Sets | As Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese art of this arrangement of items to make a harmonious totality which optimizes the flow of energy to attract fruition of aims, so is Vaastu Shastra the Indian art of designing and constructing living environments that are in harmony with the physical and metaphysical forces. Like Feng Shui, Vaastu concerns itself with the flow of energy which in Sanskrit is Pran’ or Life Force and which finds its corresponding term in Feng Shui as Chi’.
Vaas’ means to reside or dwell, and Shastra’ means mathematics that literally it is science of buildings or homes. Vaastu prescribes how many different chambers of the house including the dining area should be oriented in terms of construction and direction and the furniture should be put. Vaastu tells you how you need to arrange your dining room furniture in a way that is auspicious, in the best fashion. The Vaastu of dining room furniture and this dining area is said to affect the positive effect that eating will have on you and your family.
The principles of Vaastu indicate that the beneficial direction to construct the dining area is the western portion of the house. There are directives for the dining room furniture: the dining table, shouldn’t be put from the wall and there needs to be sufficient space all around the dining table to move. The dining table may be of a rectangle or square shape.
Like the tenets of Feng Shui, Vaastu also requires the dining area to be free from clutter and not to be crowded with too much furniture. If the dining area is an open dining space; i.e. one which merges with or into the kitchen and / or the drawing room space, there should be a distinction made for the dining room space by demarcating with a screen or some potted plants.
Back in Vaastu, not just are there any instructions for arranging dining room furniture such as the dining table and the dining seats but also how many members of the household should be seated. It’s suggested that the parents of the household must sit facing the North, North East, or Eastern directions. It’s also suggested that if the kids be seated in the house, they gain control or that direction and impose their own will upon their parents!
In keeping with ancient Indian customs of animals Vaastu advises that before starting the meal, some offering should be made to a cow, crow or puppy. It’s deemed inadvisable to have a toilet adjoining to or starting out to the dining area. As there’s much emphasis put on the true construction of this room and not the placement of the dining area furniture, it is suggested that the dining table shouldn’t be put under a beam. The colour palette for the walls of the dining area considered suitable by Vaastu are pink or crimson or other non- relaxing and jarring colors like cream, or yellow.
