Vaastu prescribes also how the furniture should be placed and many different rooms of the home such as the dining area should be oriented in terms of direction and construction. Vaastu tells you how you should organize your dining room furniture in a means that is auspicious. The Vaastu of dining room furniture and the dining area is said to affect the positive effect that eating will have on your loved ones and you.
The fundamentals of Vaastu indicate that the most beneficial way to build the dining area is the western section of the home. There are also directives for your dining room furniture: the dining table, should not be set from the wall and there should be space all over the dining table to move. The dining table may be of a square or rectangle shape.
Like the tenets of Feng Shui, Vaastu also needs the dining area to be free from clutter and not to be crowded with too much furniture. If the dining area is an open plan area; i.e. one which merges with or to the kitchen and / or the drawing room area, there should be a distinction made for the dining room area by demarcating with a display or any potted plants.
In Vaastu, not only are there instructions for arranging dining room furniture such as the dining table and the dining chairs but also how the members of the family should be seated. It’s suggested that the family’s parents must sit facing the North, North East, or Eastern instructions. It’s also suggested that should the children be seated in they get control that direction or the home and impose their will upon their parents!
In keeping with ancient Indian traditions of animals being considered sacred, Vaastu advises that before starting the meal, some little offering should be made to a cow, crow or puppy. It’s considered inadvisable to have a toilet adjoining to or starting out to the dining area. Since there is much emphasis placed on the true construction of the space and not the placement of the dining area furniture, it is suggested that the dining table should not be placed under a beam. The color palette for the walls of the dining area considered suitable by Vaastu are pink or orange or alternative non- calming and jarring colors such as cream, or yellow.
